That's where we come in. We completely redesigned the desktop computer to be smaller, lighter, more efficient and retain all the computing power of its much larger, heavier relative. Comparing BGA (Ball Grid Array) CPU's Versus Socketed CPU's in Desktop Portable Computers

Beware of imitation small form factor (SFF) PC's that claim to be desktop portable computers but are nothing more than a glorified laptop in a mini desktop enclosure. A lot of these so-called desktop portables utilize BGA CPU's. BGA, or ball grid array integrated circuits, are nothing more than chips which have been directly soldered to a circuit board, in this case, a motherboard. This connection method, which is used in laptops, is prone to failure over time and CPU's installed in this manner are basically not replaceable. BGA CPU's have many tiny solder points which, over time, can become weakened and lose connectivity from the motherboard. This mainly occurs due to expansion and contraction of the motherboard from heating and cooling. Also, vibrations, dropping or other jarring can contribute to BGA CPU failure.

 

Conversely, ZUG desktop portable computers utilize ONLY socketed CPU's which can be replaced or upgraded at any time. Another advantage of socketed CPU's is that they handle motherboard expansion and contraction perfectly, keeping your CPU safely in place and your computer running smoothly for many years.

The Importance of Proper Cooling in Small Form Factor Computers

Something else we take very seriously is cooling your computer. Proper cooling methods are absolutely imperative in keeping your computer stable and increasing its lifespan. For this reason, we have implemented our ZUG Cool Chassis Venting System into all of our computer enclosures. With plenty of air vents strategically located around the enclosure, the cooling fan can effortlessly draw air in over the cooler fins and hot air exhaust can easily escape from the chassis. To add to this, we utilize the best low-profile CPU coolers. These CPU coolers have premium quality fans which are constructed with precision long-life bearings, making them run much quieter and more efficient for long periods of time. You will definitely notice the difference. With the combination of top-notch CPU cooling and our ZUG Cool Chassis Venting System, our computers simply run cooler and last longer.

Advantages of In-House Manufacturing

​Since all of our design and manufacturing takes place in-house, we have the ability to maintain the highest quality control standards possible.

 

Additionally, we utilize smaller, low-powered CNC machines to mill all of our custom computer enclosures, therefore reducing electrical consumption during the machining process. After machining, we begin the meticulous handwork and assembly of your ZUG computer. After we have checked and double-checked the build, we will thoroughly test and approve your computer for shipping. We take the extra time to get it right the first time.

Our Part in E-Waste Reduction

Besides implementing low power options during our manufacturing process, another way we try to lessen the burden on the planet is to reduce electronic waste. Our exclusive line of rebuilt computers, the ZUG Reboot Series, incorporates factory refurbished and fully tested motherboards and/or RAM modules into the builds. Like with all of our computers, Reboot Series computers are outfitted with premium hardware, a brand-new ZUG power delivery system and a brand-new enclosure.

 

It is our hope that the Reboot Series will in some way lessen the electronics burden to the environment by reducing e-waste in landfills. Also, every time we can repurpose an electronic component, it replaces the need to manufacture a new one. Large manufacturing facilities use a tremendous amount of power every time their production line is up and running.
